This story is about a sweet young man who had an old soul!. The story was posted by his mom, Maria Henry Gay. Let’s go through the story in point of view of Maria Henry Gay.

Well, today didn’t go as planned, but the hardest times are when we learn the most and feel the most thankful.
Today was supposed to be the day that Buffy’s teeth would be cleaned and pulled, but Dr. Mac had a feeling she needed to look at some lab work before putting her to sleep.
She was right. Buffy was showing signs of advanced kidney failure, so anesthesia wasn’t an option. As a family, we decided that the kindest and most loving thing to do would be to let her go before she lost the will to live and stopped eating and drinking.

I would never have thought of leaving Robbie out of this decision or not letting him be a part of the whole process, so as soon as Robbie got out of school, I went to get him. On the way there, he told me that he wanted to be the one to hold her when she went to heaven. I gave him that honor, of course. On the way home, I told him how proud I was of him for knowing how important it was to take care of old animals and make sure they never had to suffer.
What he said was…

(And for those of you who don’t know, Robbie was adopted from the foster care system after being severely abused and neglected for years.)

“I know what it’s like to not be cared for or loved, and I don’t ever want any of my animals to feel that way. Only when they go to heaven do we feel sad. Today is a good day for them. I’m glad you’re proud of me. Are you ok, Mom?”

From the lips of children.

Robbie loves adopting senior dogs. He knows that the longer a child stays in foster care, the less likely it is that someone will adopt them. He once told me, “If all you wanted was a baby, you never would have gotten me.” He treats our senior dogs, which we call “old people,” in a similar way.

He has also told me more than once that how long you have something has nothing to do with how much you love it. When I asked him what he meant, he said, “Well, you’ve only known me for two years, but you love me like it’s been forever.” My son is the coolest, yes. She wrote on.
