Thousands of cats, dogs, and other animals are being cared for by brave Ukrainians who refuse to leave them in rescue shelters while Russia attacks.

Since she started Harmony Fund, Laura Simpson has been helping animal shelters for a long time. She told Daily Mail, “These shelters and the people who run them are like family to us, and they need our help more than ever right now.”

Simpson went on to say, “I’ve talked to a few shelter owners, and they’re scared, but they won’t give up their animals.”
I’ve seen a lot of heart in Ukraine. “These people who save animals are their own kind, and they will never give up.” Shelter Friend is home to about 600 dogs and 200 cats. Its founder, Marina Dilly, said: “Our town is now empty, and there is no vet hospital. They stopped. Nothing is there.”

“There’s no dry dog food, and rice is being given out in small amounts,” Dilly told Daily Mail. “There isn’t enough cat food for everyone. There is no way to bring food or other things to the shelter.

“We have enough food for a few days, but I’m afraid these dogs won’t make it if no one helps us and NATO doesn’t close the sky over Ukraine.” Dilly calls the animals the “forgotten souls,” and she won’t leave them behind.

“Only four of us are taking care of the animals, but we won’t leave. “Dillis added, “We will stay here with the animals.” Even though there isn’t enough food and water, Shelter Friend still takes in animals that were left behind by people leaving the country or brought in from other vet hospitals that had to close because of the ongoing conflict. She said, “We just took in two hurt dogs that had been left on the street, and we are now helping them.”

Before Russia attacked, a lot of the animals were about to be adopted. “So many families in other countries are waiting for their new pets, but I don’t know how to get them across the border,” said Dilly.

“Roads are blocked, borders are full, and it’s too dangerous to move animals right now.” What do you think about this? Tell us in the comments, and SHARE this story with your family and friends!
