With over 220 different species, owls are one of the most fascinating birds in the animal kingdom. Owls are a mysterious group of birds that easily capture the attention and curiosity of bird watchers or people passing through an area where owls live…

Typically, an owl’s hoot can be frightening. As a result, owls are frequently used to symbolise fear in horror films and ghost cartoons. However, after seeing the first film in the Harry Potter series, I developed a fondness for owls.

The directors of most animal cartoons consider owls to be the most intelligent animals. For example, in Franklin’s cartoon series, Mr Owl is Franklin’s wise and knowledgeable teacher. A group of owls-is-known as a parliament, a fun fact about owls that strengthens the above statement. Owls can also rotate their necks 270 degrees. Their fake eyeballs provide binocular vision, making it easier to catch their prey.

But, because their heads are so heavy, have you ever heard or seen in documentaries that baby owls sleep face down?

On June 21 2020, Mark Rees revealed the truth by posting a photo to his Twitter feed. This tweet has received 140.6K likes and 1.6K comments because of the adorable way the baby owl sleeps in the picture.

I’VE JUST LEARNED THAT BABY OWLS SLEEP THIS WAY BECAUSE THEIR HEADS ARE TOO HEAVY. I ALSO DON’T THINK I’VE EVER SEEN OWL LEGS…. PIC.TWITTER.COM/DFKII2JTS8

Simply put, baby owls sleep in the same way human babies do. These owl babies’ heads are larger than their bodies, and because they are so small, they can’t keep their balance while sleeping. As a result, when they sleep, they prefer to lie down. When they reach adulthood, their sleeping posture changes; however, if they keep this habit for a long time, they will maintain it indefinitely.
