Vieneese and Douglas Stanton, like every other couple, had enormous preparations for their wedding. After learning that Vieneese’s father had only a few weeks to live in April, they knew they wouldn’t be able to continue with the pans.

Preston Rolan, her father, was diagnosed with acute leukemia. When she became engaged, her father was ecstatic, and the pair wanted him to attend their wedding.

On November 16, the couple married their friends, family, and nurses at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center.

Vieneese told PEOPLE that her father had no idea they were planning this and that it came as a complete surprise to him. She even stated that she was hiding from him in the hospital since he goes for morning walks around the hospital.

When they took him on a walk, his daughter unexpectedly turned the corner on him, startling him and causing him to cry. ‘This is my daughter,’ he walked around telling all the nurses. “We were able to arrange the wedding at the hospital with the support of his nurses so that he could escort me down the aisle.” We wanted him to be able to join us in this adventure.” said Vieneese.

Vieneese had a big smile as she strolled around the hospital halls with her father arm-in-arm, with nurses and guests cheering on the sidelines. She also mentioned that the hospital personnel was gracious in providing food to the visitors, decorating the facility, and even getting her father a suit.

Vieneese has always been close to her father and has always made it a point to include him in important events in her life, like when she announced that she was pregnant, which made him very happy. Rolan’s placement in hospice care was put on hold so that he could go to his daughter’s wedding.

Now that the ceremony is complete, Vieneese says she is preparing to say her final goodbyes to her father. He has always provided her with wisdom and guided her in making the best decisions she has ever made. Vieneese expressed how much she will miss laughing with her father through tears.
