A touching story about a Finnish family who adopted and cared for an injured red squirrel they found and lived with for six years has surfaced.
Priami, a “reddit” user, posted photos of the creature and explained how they found it. At first, the user’s grandmother assumed it was dead. Despite this, she handed it over to Priami for safekeeping when it began to show signs of life as she attempted to get it off the road.
They attempted to release it, but it was immobile due to its blindness in one eye, so they kept it & named it “Arttu”. From 2007 to 2013, the squirrel lived with them.

The injured baby squirrel was discovered on the side of the road.
“We attempted to re-introduce him to the wild when it appeared that he had healed, but he fell from a tree & collided with a rock.”
“He made it, but we realized his eye would never fully heal, and he wouldn’t be able to survive on his own.”
“Arttu (roughly equivalent to ‘Arthur’ in Finnish) was his name.” “We were taken aback by how ‘tame’ he became.”
“He liked to play ‘fights’ with our hands (much like cats do), and he was careful not to bite too hard.”
“He liked to sleep in our pockets as well.”
“He even recognized his ‘family’ and became extremely wary of strangers approached.”
The narrator says, “We gave him nuts, fruits, berries, and mushrooms.”
He always returned, even when they let him go – “He stayed there for a while and then jumped back to my shoulder.”
“Squirrel’s claws are constantly growing, so we have to trim them from time to time because he can’t wear them out naturally.”
The flash in this shot shows the gleam of his good eye, while the one in this shot shows his gray and cloudy blind eye.
“He passed away due to old age.” I discovered him dead one morning, curled up in his ‘nest,’ as if he was sleeping.”
