The phrase “Till death do us part” is just used in movies. In reality, things don’t work that way, and no one dies for someone else. Even so, a couple from Texas showed that this kind of love exists outside of books and movies as well.
Tom and Delma Ledbetter were married for 62 years and lived in Florida. They both died 90 minutes apart. Doctors say that when they died, they were holding hands.
“It happened exactly the way they had planned. Their daughter, Donetta Nichols, said that nothing could have gone better. When they died, Tom was 84 years old and Delma was 82. On April 21, they both died in Texas.
Nichols, one of their two daughters, says that they met when they were in their early twenties through friends who knew both of them. Their first date was hardly a date, and it happened while Tom was moving his car.”
Nichols’s dad told her, “They went around two or three blocks or something, and when they got back and parked, he grabbed her hand and said, ‘I don’t know what I was thinking.'” He said, “I just reached over and gave her a kiss on the cheek.”
“And that’s how they first got together. She said with a smile, “They got married three weeks after their first date.”
After Tom retired, he and Delma went on trips all over the United States and camped at different places.
When my mother got sick last month, we asked several experts for help, but her condition didn’t get better.
The doctors couldn’t find any sign of life. It was not possible to measure the blood pressure. We didn’t get anything. On the other hand, Nichols was holding onto something,” she cried. The narrator says, “That something had to be her husband, my father.”
He got sick a few days after mom did, so we took both of them to the nursing home. “They moved their small beds close to each other, and she was lying in front of him. Daddy took her hand in his and just laid down next to her. It was great.”
They passed away on April 21. Even though tears were running down her face, she went on.
“They were together on Earth for 62 years, and they will keep loving each other in Heaven.”
